Shirley’s Last Bags of Popcorn
Shirley’s Popcorn closed its doors Wednesday evening for the last time after losing its lease for the Uptown Westerville store. Franchise owner Anna Mae Blankenmeyer tended the front counter on the last day with help from her remaining employees serving the final helpings of gourmet popcorn.
Blankenmeyer, also a lawyer, told 614 Magazine: “It was a very difficult decision for me to step away from Shirley’s because of the wonderful Uptown community that has embraced me and our business,” Blankenmeyer said. “It has been a blessing and a true joy to provide ‘pure happiness’ to so many wonderful folks in Uptown and beyond over the past eight years!”
